Re: Twaddle
Patrick Pichette's retirement post made me want to hate "google culture" just a little more than i did already. Which is a lot.

"And Tamar out of the blue said "Hey, why don't we just keep on going". Let's explore Africa, and then turn east to make our way to India, it's just next door, and we're here already. Then, we keep going; the Himalayas, Everest, go to Bali, the Great Barrier Reef... Antarctica, let's go see Antarctica!?"

Yes, please do keep going. and don't ever come back, pretentious donkey with your tone deaf ear for the reality of the death of the American dream for 99.999 % of the poulation.

What makes it even more repulsive was the reams of toadying bloviation about what an inspiring guy he is on the message baord under his post.

Honestly, at an indivdual level i know nice, smart, good people at Google that i like. As a company i really dislike what it has become more than any other company I've covered for the last 30 years. Posts like that one are why.

In a Venn diagram depicting the reality spheres of the 1% and the rest of us, the intersection of those spheres is close to being a null set.

It is always gratifying to see anyone acknowledged and picked for their capabilities.   If only we could finally go beyond the distinctions and focus ever more on the capabilities and insuring that the right culture is created so that such talent is nurtured and blooms ever more.

She seems as the perfect candidate putting in an average 18hs of work per day even while having cancer. Google will even push this limit up, and it is nice to see intersection and transferrable skills between tech and finance worlds.

Re: Twaddle
She's to be commended for having landed the job--she was the best person.   Frankly, it should not be news.   I wish her much success because Google will have its' share of challenges as noted by this very perceptive article by Farhad Mahjoo of the New York Times:

Twaddle
That Pichette Google+ post is the most pretentious load of twaddle I've seen in ages. he was VACATIONING on MT. KILMINJARO and saw the SERENGHETTI SPREAD OUT BEFORE HIS FEET and had an APOTHESIS. I'm sure a janitor working two jobs -- or a middle-class person wondering whether they're soon to become a janitor working two jobs -- is deeply moved by the choices Pichette has.

I am so, so glad to be out of that sector of the tech industry.

Ariella, exactly.  Showcasing competency with a high profile professional model will do more to shatter the glass ceiling than tokenism.

Another mark for Women's History Month! Really, though, I agree with DHagar, it's really about picking the best person for the job, regardless of gender. As both tech and finance are still very much male-dominated, so she really must be outstanding.

Re: Google Hires Influential Woman CFO
Dan, thanks for keeping us up-to-date on breaking news.

Google is a smart company and obviously has attracted top notch talent - which happens to be a woman.  This kind of visible recognition of professional talent, not just gender showcasing, will serve the Google and the industry well.  Google is showing it truly is confident in its innovation and leadership!
