Re: Here's why (Brief Thoughts)
Mike,

You're right that cable has it's challenges, and the constantly escalating prices will likely get to the pain point that too many people go elsewhere. But events like NCAA tournament just aren't the same trying to DVR -- someone will tell you the score before you watch the game. If an OTT provider can solve that issue, it will be the turning point.

Re: Here's why (Brief Thoughts)
On a personal note, I have had great experience with the AT&T Uverse DVR service I have. But I continue to think (and Marie has done some great work on this here in Light Reading) that Cable Providers have a long-term challenge in sustaining the business model at hand.  From a broader strategic perspective, what Mashable noted this week continues to affirm this not withstanding the "spin" by the Cable Providers:

Here's why
One reason why OTT services are good for cable providers is that the OTT experience is so much better than the awful, awful DVRs that cable providers put in customers' hands.

Also, there's the principle that if a company's business can be disrupted, it will be. If the company does the disruption itself, it stands to reap the benefits, but if the competitor does it, the company loses.
