Re: Apigee success
@danielcawrey,

If that's their value proposition, I think it'll be a toss in the bucket. Working with APIs isn't too bad as long as you know what you're doing. This is from a developer perspective but making it even simpler so even non-devs can work with it is key.

Re: Apigee success
Yes, totally agree. All of these things are going to make Apigee tremendously valuable as enterprises realize they need to get on the SDN boat.

Apigee may be able to be that defacto service provider as long as they cater to making the APIs really easy to use and acessible.

Public and private cloudse
Being able to move seamlessly between the public and private clouds is clearly going to be of major importance. Interesting to see that Deutsche Telekom and Informatica teamed up last month on a service that is supposed to let customers integrate data and apps from all sources - including thse in public and private clouds as well as residing on-premise.

Smart pipes
This is an area where carriers can go beyond being just dumb pipes. Enterprises need to balance workloads between multiple cloud providers and their own data centers, and carriers are ideally suited to do that job for them.

Apigee success
Apigee seems to be the de facto API management company. It's racking up business in the enterprise, telecom and data center world. Part of the reason for that, I think, is that it got ahead of the virtualization trend. It hasn't sold a physical appliance in five years and when companies are ready to make the move to SDN, it's prepared to help them get there. APIs and SDN sit on different layers, but really are inextricably linked.
