The high earnings trends of the past may be gone if operators can't find new ways to keep growing the profit lines. But with the high growth curve... "Britons now spend more time on their smart devices than they do sleeping." who's to say there can't be money made as those phones stay on 24/7 and keep everyone gulping data. It's just going to take some testing and guessing to keep ahead of the game.

You're right. Without finding new ways to monetize data, carriers won't be able to continue to modernize and raise prices. Higher prices will be needed in the long run to keep up with inflation and rising costs.

Monetize
Operators are going to need to find new ways to monetize data. Because they are hurting on the voice and SMS side, this may mean new revenue must come from the data they provide. 

I think that this could result in privacy issues, but we'll see. I think an example of this is Verizon's rewards program, which requires people to opt-in to.
