In my experience, when a company loses a key player and said person isn't replaced relatively quickly there's usually trouble on the horizon.  In the last two instances I saw it occur the problem was with management since the working staff seemed pretty strong.

According to CMO Brad Bush, Fred became CTO Emaritus in January of this year and his duties just recently ended. Here's his official comment: 

"Fred was CTO emeritus for a while, serving on several boards like TIA.  Those official duties have now ended. We sincerely value Fred's contribution to the company and the industry and thank him for his many years of service to GENBAND.  BG Kumar serves as Chief Product Officer and is responsible for all technology leadership and Paul Pluschkell joined the company earlier this year as Executive Vice President of Cloud Services and Chief Strategy Officer. Paul has been focusing on the Kandy Platform-as-a-Service launch."

CTO details
I will update this as soon as I hear from Genband as to who is filling the CTO role now or how the responsbilities have shifted since he left.
