I agree, but I think EE's already got that in mind and what they're doing right now is future-proofing.  Can only handle just so many things at one time.

Far be it for me to argue with EE's approach, but while virtual networks could be used to test NFV services, I would think you would still need SDN to see how the full eco-system works, which would include management of the various virtual elements as well as orchestration.

I know another brand name European operator that is deploying its own virtual private network to test new technogies and new services before launching them into the production network. It will run over the regular LTE access and use MoCN for traffic separation into the new virtual core. This is different to what EE describes above, but is along the same lines.

It's like building your own playground, virtually.

A very cool idea
You have to hand it to Bridge and his team - figuring a way to make real world efficiency gains from NFV while still figuring out how it will works, and not having to get bogged down in the orchestration/specs soup, is epic.
