At least Verizon is trying. There is no known success formula. So companies have to experiment to invent one!

Its better to experiment & arrive earlier than wait for others' experiments' results.

It does seem the early OTT providers will gain the advantage. Whether Verizon can cut enough programming deals at costs that enable selling to it's subscribers at a profit is a big unknown. But those cord cutters are sending a message, consumers want what they want and where they want it, and are looking at reasonable costs for the service.

Know your rights
The plan sounds all generically well and good, but there remains the issue of securing (read paying for) the rights to transmit that content. Satan will be lurking in the details.
