@DOShea, great point!  It is not an open checkbook, it will definitely have to deliver results and produce value soon or I suspect it will lose its representative power; and groups will splinter and go their own way.

More proof that more companies are willing to work around the standards process if it moves too slow. The vote not pursue a 25G standard in the IEEE reportedly was very close, so some level of need is obvious.

Carol, sounds like a smart move.  By focusing on a high volume users and the growing demand on the data centers enables them to "solve" some of the data center problems - which are growing. 

I wonder if the IoT might not be another market, with its potential?
