Agree that reluctance will fade away with ubiquity and simplicity. But quality may still be a deterrant. It will face the same issue as Netflix v/s Comcast.

There are definitely some consumer segments that seem to prefer physical discs -- notably mothers with small children. But if you look into their reasoning, the majority of their objections to digital copies come from concerns about accessing that content in specific situations. However, for Millennials (now as old as mid-thirties) who have grown up with digital vs physical, digital copies are a natural extension of  their learned viewing habits . If the industry makes it easy for consumers to understand that they can watch whenever and wherever they want, on the devices they choose, with a quality viewing experience we believe that the reluctance to choose digital copies will fade - and quickly!

There is some research showing people still like those physical disks (espcially women) more than digital online streams. There's still going to be a lot of marketing efforts needed to get consumers onboard watching movies and entertainment from streaming sources. We all still want something we can hold in our hands. Not probably real logical, but our biology seems to be wired for it?

Since pay-TV providers are now effectively OTTs it will be interesting how they resolve this with each other.
