Re: Who's doing what
Telefonica is doing multiple trials of various 'flavors' of SDN, in optical layer (with Infinera and others) and packet layer. And like all network operators, I imagine, it will have to indulge in trial and error to see which approach(es) suits it best.

Cisco may not be in the pure OpenFlow camp but I don't think you can say it is not involved in network that is software-defined in some fashion...

The big Tier 1s would be crazy not to trial Cisco's offer, if only to see if it has patricular merits that others don't - and that applies to all the main suppliers.

Who's doing what
Mitch,

I'm curious if Telefonica has revealed how they are using equipment from the various vendors? It's interesting although not surprising that they are also using Cisco gear in the trial because Cisco doesn't really seem to be a fan of SDN.
