KB Beats Hasty Retreat
So KB is beating a hasty retreat from its acquisition ambitions, eh? Guess we won't see the German cable market consolidate so quickly after all. Deutsche Telekom must be happy anout that.

You need to take into account tha fact that AT&T has historically had significant ownership presence in S.A. so it'snot like they'd be total novices, plus any pan-european acquisition would enhance that historical AT&T knowledge with the local knowledge on dealing with the EU wide and individual country complexities.

I wonder how they and their acquisitions would be treated by the EU and it's members who wouldnt welcome an American invasion especially after the discovery of AT&T's deep involvement with the NSA

If AT&T did acquire in Europe, they'd face a much different regulatory and competitive environment too. I think a lot of their pricing ploys wouldn't fly over there.

The power of a global mobile operator
Imagine if AT&T did actually merge with a major European operator? Like Telefonica?

The economies of scale from being a major in N and S AMerica and Europe and the packages that could be offered to corporate customers would be something....

 

But what sort of legal, financial and operational mess might such a deal create?

If AT&T does anyting it has to be big - going Tier 2 doesn't seem like it would be worth it.
