Bah humbug!  So why didn't they call it 4G when HSPA was invented/deployed?  Why only scramble to re-define HSPA as 4G when Verizon launched LTE as the official 4G?  At this point, who cares?  The waters are muddied for 5G.

As M. Jourdain said in Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme: By my faith! For more than forty (two) years I have been speaking prose  (4G) without knowing anything about it, and I am much obliged to you for having taught me that.

I should have noticed this before but Fortune cites this article and the accompanying conversation for shedding a lot of light on what 4G is. Not sure if I dig being called a "telecom geek" though! :-)
