re: War With Iraq: Readers Weigh InWhat I find very annoying about most of the War discussion, both on these boards as well as elsewhere, is that the poeple with the strongest opinions on the subject seem to know the least about it. None of them seem to know anything about the middle east, or US involvement therein, aside from what they see on TV.

I believe you meant "live together"
Before one can do that, one has to know how to respect one's neighbour irrespective of creed, clour, religion or race. Unfortunately, going through history (with an H), we have seen that even before JC and from Boeadicia to the man in Space, we have not learnt how to live next to our neighbours.
Today, we may have Lords or aristocrats sitting in parliament or the House in some countries whilst some well heeled and educated ones are governing other countries, the fact remain that the Human Being is a doomed beast.
Poverty, famine , greed and all the other sins have survived.

re: War With Iraq: Readers Weigh InBeing an Arab American, I should be the one watching the drastic events in Iraq the most, let alone commenting on them.
However, with the rise of lack of tolerance we've been noticing since 9/11 terrorist attacks, I find it hard to express my opinions (although I am a professional, in Telecom, one of the most diverse industry in the nation), since I am torn in between being an American, who loves this nation and its values, and wishes All God's and Man's bounties to be bestow upon this nation that has made me who I am, and being an Arab who is quite proud of his heritage and culture, and wishes to spare his fellow Arabs the destruction and tragic consequences of THE war.
It is becoming increasingly harder for us, Arab Americans, to simply say we are against war, and even if we stand up against all odds, and say so, we have to begin by a long speech about how cruel and inhumane Saddam is.
Just thought I'd add my two cents, wishing everyone peace and success.
re: War With Iraq: Readers Weigh InI don't mind the US going into Iraq and kicking Saddam out. After all the things we've done to support the ass in the past. But why is a man like Bush, who is basically a lot like Saddam in the level of concern for anyone other than his own small circle of friends, doing this deed? He could care less for the average person in Iraq. He certainly cares less for the average person in the USofA so why spend the big bucks to aid the people in a distant land?
