re: TiVo Building tru2way Version of New Interface

How is this the "Premiere" Tivo?  The Series3 (with which I am extremely happy) already has Amazon & Blockbuster video on demand, I can already receive video podcasts, I can browse YouTube (although the user interface is cludgy) and through the TIVo Search I can search TV episodes and movies both off air, and online.

So other than offering a larger hard drive, which is useful, what new features are we getting, other than a new UI.

Where is support for SDV?  There are many channels that I should get that I cannot because of SDV.  Where is the built in WiFi?  Where are the extra tuners?

On a side note, why do I need one cablecard per tuner?  Why can't one cablecard work for all tuners in the machine?  Why do I have to pay $2 for each tuner (ie. per cablecard) on top of the $13 monthly subscription.

There are so many ways that TiVo could have really gone above and beyond here, but missed.

Are they really trying to push this to CableCo's at the same time as telling the FCC that CableCo's are blocking their entry and that they shoudl scrap TruWay in favour of TCP/IP settings.  Don't get me wrong, I think TruWay is already out of date, and it is not even installed yet, but do they really want to bite the hand that feeds?

This might make some sense now, of the TellyTopia Moveez thread I just commented on. The TellyTopia solution does not need Tru2Way but works with CATV systems anyways through their network. It does use EBIF if needed - but a TiVo solution would probably be native, IMHO.

The Moveez approach seems like a nice way for MSOs to neutralize some OTT competition. Getting some info on that now... sounds like an interesting approach if they can get buy-in for it. More on that soon. JB
