re: The Regrettable Noughts

...subprime mortgages and mortgage-backed securities pre-date the current decade (which does in fact continue until the end of next year) by a number of years, although their use as an Weapon of Stupid by banks with no apparent instinct for self-preservation is an invention of accelerated financial deregulation early in the Oughts.

re: The Regrettable Noughts A good point, bmenezes, so let's just add Deregulation to the list, shall we?
And Russell Brand, too, while we're at it.

So do never-ending sports seasons (some sports, not others), but that made the list. The 162 never-ending baseball season (which seems even longer because it's baseball) started in 1961. The extra playoff round (division series with the wild card team) came in '95. I'm sure it's similar for the other sports.

Golf would probably fit in the oughts. I mean... it has a tournament now (not even the NCAA could pull that off)!

Unfortunately, Menotomy, Golf made the Top 10 Regrettable Ideas list for the 14th century. It came in at No. 2, barely edged out by the Black Death.

re: The Regrettable Noughts

The AP has issued its Top Stories of 2009. The Death of Jacko, oddly enough, only came in at No. 7, and there's no sign of Balloon-Boy.

But the Iraq War didn't make the list at all. It's soooooo 2008... and 07... and 06...
