re: The Effect of War on Telecom Together US and Israel will rule the Earth population. Israel will control the whole Arab nations with its vast amount of oil reserve and the US will dictate all other nations should do.
Boy do I want some of what you are smoking! Israel can barely keep a lid on the West Bank and Gaza. Now you think they can control from Morocco to Oman? Winning a war doesn't equate to controlling the population. They weren't even able to stay in Lebanon. Hezbollah drove them out. Yes. Drove them out. They don't have a enough manpower to pull it off, let alone the materiel (and their economy is in the toilet, as much from the intifada as from anything else). Sheesh!
re: The Effect of War on Telecom A primary goal of democracy is the equitable application of justice. Don't know if Bin Laden's vision of "democracy" includes that.
Actually, I'm not so sure that that is a goal of democracy per se. That is why we have some brakes on democracy in this country so the majority will not exercise tyranny over the minority. In any case, "equitable" is in the eye of the beholder. To many beholders in that part of the world Shari'a is equitable (even if it isn't in my book). I stand by my statement that a democratically elected government in Saudi Arabia would probably more resemble bin Laden's vision than Jefferson's.

What do you do if they are just anti-American (not anti-war per se) and they are bigger than you?
Just curious. ;-)
By the way, if subtlety fails let me tell you that your premise is stupid. I would encourage to try your tactic in one of the suburbs of Paris during a pro-Iraq demonstration. I would love to watch but I'm afraid they would think you were some friend of mine or something. ;-)
And of course that means everyone else is irrelevant. . . Get over it. Yes, the US is the most powerful but it is also becoming a bit to arrogant. If you think for a minute that we can get by on just military strength you are kidding yourself.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>
No, cupcake, everyone else is not irrelevant. Much of the criticism, however, is irrelevant. And the governments of France, Germany and Russia are all but irrelevant. Let's face it: there's nothing any of their leaders can say or do that adds up to a hill of beans in the good old US of A. Is that too arrogant? So what, who cares.
Maybe we can't get by entirely on military strength, but it sure helps. Remember what Al Capone used to say: "You can get further with a kind word and a gun than just a kind word."
Are you American? I gather from some of your many posts that you may live in States, but you seem like a Brit.....
re: The Effect of War on Telecom Are you American? I gather from some of your many posts that you may live in States, but you seem like a Brit.....
You see! Your silly stereotypes don't help you understand the world at all. Yes, as I said once before I was born in Boston. There are some of us who think you can't be much more American than that. ;-) (Most of us are in New England though). ;-)
re: The Effect of War on Telecom I also find it unbelievable that anyone, including Arabs, would believe that we are targeting civilians. What advantage would we have in attacking innocent people?
So you don't believe that people in other countries can be as bone-headed and hateful as you have seen in this group? ;-) Obviously they have their propagandists and hate-mongers too.
Dont waste your time in trying to put some logic into the few that can be pictured as riding in a 1957 chevy truck, 2 of his/her cousins with his 5 kids, with one tooth and a couple of possum pelts to throw into the stil in the back of their house. I condem 911 and I felt it was justified to go after Bin Laden. As they write and use their absurd analogies, it shows their focus. I can see through them. Only time will tell. I wonder what Japan would have done if they had enough power left to retaliate for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Oh yeah, excuse : To prevent more US soldiers deaths. The notion that this country does no wrong is very prevalent now. I am an American. But like all the 40+ that wrote the Constitution, they didn't want one single individual to declare war to another. Bush has. By the way I thought cluster bombs were illegal to use in the war...
re: The Effect of War on Telecomgardner wrote: "What do you do if they are just anti-American (not anti-war per se) and they are bigger than you?"
Anti-American? Merle Haggard wrote a song titled "walking on the fighting side of me". I do not care if they are bigger than me. That would provide a larger target. I would be happy to try that tactic with anyone, anywhere...even in a Paris suburb during a pro-Iraq rally. Or better yet, how about I try it on you? I would be more than happy to meet you at Nedleys or any other place of your choosing. ;-)
re: The Effect of War on TelecomI wonder what Japan would have done if they had enough power left to retaliate for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. ================== I suppose they would killed a whole lot more people and sent many more japanese to their deaths in order to preserve the military government for a little while. Maybe the war would have lasted long enough for the army and navy to explain the purpose of fighting on. Or how exactly the strategy of throwing away Japanese lives in a lost cause was good for anyone (except the rulers).
I suppose a few people in Japan who share your hatred for americans would have felt better if more americans were dead. But I think by that point, most sane people just wanted the war over. Dropping a few more bombs or killing some more americans would not change the outcome of the war. It would just mean more dead people.
re: The Effect of War on TelecomThe source of most hatred in the Middle East is our policy with Israel. They don't want an Israel, most of them don't even formally recognize it as a state. Isn't that just nutty, they don't recognize it but they sure declared war on it 3 times. Also, they lost all three which is another sore spot. The problem I have with Al Jazeera is that it builds hatred among the uneducated. These people are brainwashed. While Fox News and MSNBC are clearly biased they are reaching a more educated and open audience. Maybe I'm just still sore from watching people in the middle east, most notably Palestinians, cheering in the streets after 9/11. I mean, thousands in the Middle East have named there children after Osama. I'm tired of the hate cylce fed to the uneducated masses. Calling people who committ suicide " heros" has no place in my world.
We waited 12 years for Sadaam to comply. We are watching his last days running what is clearly a terrorist state. Let the Arab street protest all they want but hear us loud and clear, don't cross us or you will pay the price. The hammer is about to hit Sadaam clear between the eyes, and there is no one more deserving of the power coming his way. 30 miles from Baghdad and counting....
