re: The Effect of War on Telecom Hmm I have been silently reading all the posts so far, evidently I dont find it as pointless and boring as someone pointed out or perhaps its the unemployment.

Anyway I have been mulling over what the real reasons for this was could be since President and Co have not been able to come up with a convincing reason and made America look like a Chameleon in the eyes of rest of the world.

I came up with this possibility...

Pre 9/11 scenario..

Iraq is contained by the sanctions who cares about the sufferings of Iraqis. The Oil supply is stable and the beast Saddam is under control. We dont care if he tortures its own citizen.

Post 9/11 scenario..

1. Terrorists were from Middle East : Saudi Arabia.

2. Saudi Arabia is an ally. Just because of few mad men u cant bomb a good ally.

3. Osama (Another Saudi) is in Afghanistan but has support of Taliban.

4. Taliban is a bad ass dude. World Acknowledges it.. Easy target... No diplomacy required.. Bomb the hell out of it, remove Taliban which is the pinnacle of fundamentalist regimes in the whole of Muslim world

5. Osama no where to be found. Maybe dead maybe hiding in Pakistan... Taliban was creation of Pakistani Intelligence agency ISI. Damn Pakistan is an ally.. Shit Pakistan has nukes.. Diffcult to get international support to go after it.. Might anger the Muslim world. Pretty unstable region many people within the country already hate US so no way US can control such large population of fundamentalists.

6. Hmmm What to do next..? What gives these terrorists so much money to do such bad stuff..?
Eureka its OIL...

7. Make America and rest of the world less dependent on Saudi Arabian OIL. Someone said lets have hydrogen cars and fuel efficient vehicles... No that may take some time and the economy will crash if we try to do it overnight..

8. Need to secure another abundant resource. Hmm.. Are u thinking what I am thinking Rummy dear? Dick? Paul? Colin? Lizza? Yeah lets go for Iraq. That Saddam Insane maybe the least fundamentalist dude on the block but he is the easiest to take out without hurting world opinion thanks to his cruelty (or so we think).

9. We need a good reason to attack Iraq. We cant tell the whole world that we are going there to secure oil supplies and have the grand intentions of stiffling neighbouring terrorist producing nations (That would be like waging war agains all Arab countries at same time). Lets do one thing lets connect Saddam to Osama and al qaeeda besided we have this WMD issue unresolved, people of Iraq wont mind our removing Saddam ( Or so we think) everything is adding up positively.

George : "F$%k Saddam, We are taking him out"..

10. And the rest unfolded before you... Keep changing reason if you cant prove a thing... People forget in no time, keep running the propaganda machine and later people will get so befuddled with all the information that no-one will know what the reasons were and no one will care so long as things improve. But never tell the real reason : going after Iraq to secure oil supplies with ultimate objective of cutting off money supply to terrorists and additional benefit of economic advantage and then for next 10 years flex your muscles at the real nations behind terrorists attacks sitting right in the middle of them.

Compare this to Post 9/11 scenario and judge for yourself why Iraqis should trust Americans.
Again its all guesswork which tries to give some sense to this pre-emptive strike

re: The Effect of War on Telecom This one is for the naive. Read on how innocent civilians are killed using smart weapons.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Accidents happen in war. Civilians die. Deeply saddening? Of course. But these things happen. Get over it. Smart bombs aren't perfect, but they're the best in history and get better every day.

How do civilian casualties from Gulf War I compare to 2003?

re: The Effect of War on Telecom "...suppose a few people in Japan who share your
hatred for americans would have felt better
if more americans were dead. But I think
by that point, most sane people just wanted the
war over. Dropping a few more bombs or killing
some more americans would not change the
outcome of the war. It would just mean more
dead people." Skeptic

Again, another point missed or twisted as a hatred for Americans.
Genocide was being practiced by the Germans way before the US got involved in WW2. It was very well reported previous to Pearl Harbor. However, we watched Poland, France, etc., fall to Germany. Churchill asked the US for help when it started against England. We let them borrow some islands for a few ships since we wanted to remain neutral (yeah, we always are). We watched England pummeled with V1 and V2s.There are many theories about our place WW2. One of them, induces the condition that Churchill may have known about the Pearl Harbor attack as they may have intercepted communicated messages between the Germans and the Japanese. It would have been a reason for the US to get involved and join with England. Fact? Probably not. I wish it not. Could it be possible? Perhaps. We need not be blinded by what we are told. The US dropped the bomb and killed ~50,000 the first time. Since Japan didn't respond "quick enough" we dropped the second killing 80,000 more civilians. Not military targets. My point:

I believe no goverment will let the people know the real reasons for engagement in an agressive war. Why?
It has no common purpose as opposed to a defensive/retaliative war.

You see! Your silly stereotypes don't help you understand the world at all. Yes, as I said once before I was born in Boston. There are some of us who think you can't be much more American than that. ;-) (Most of us are in New England though). ;-)

I stand corrected. You are an American. And you are most definitely from Boston.

Crapshooter, let's make a deal. I'll pay you a one way ticket to Iraq, and you go tell this in person to the mother who has lost her children "by accident".
