re: The Effect of War on Telecom You weren't really defending Iraq in your tirade were you?

1) 3% of the Iraqi population is Christian. Not really a mix.
2) The regime has been opposed to religion until the last two years. It;s very much in line with Sadaam's admiration for Stalin.

One question for the pacifists out there: 5,000 babies die every month in Iraq due to lack of food and clean water. 2500 adults die for the same reason. So why haven't you been complaining about the loss of those civilian lives? Do the math, we are saving lives here even while waging war

To those numbers, add the many thousands that have been tortured and killed. Yeah, the U.S. is just plain old evil for trying to put a stop to all that.

Good point. Tariq Aziz is the token Christian in Saddam's band of merry men, but Saddam has never really seemed to trust him. When things get a little hairy, Aziz' family is taken hostage as insurance that he won't fly the coop.

Who said that American's were PROUD of killing civillians? I sure didn't. It seems to me that the military is going out of its way to avoid civilian casualties.

Let me put it this way: who has killed more Iraqi civilians, the U.S. or Saddam Hussein's regime? And: who has killed more Iraqi citizens WITH MALICIOUS INTENT?

Listen, it takes all kinds. People are different and have different beliefs/opinions/etc. But bleeding-heart liberals like yourself are always big on talk and lacking when it comes to action. It would be nice if there were peace on earth, and that everyone took Rodney King's advice and just got along, but there are some twisted Mother-F's out there. Someone needs to take care of business and mind the store while you whine about US policy and sip French wine.

Isn't it incredible with only 3% population the right hand man Tariq Aziz is a christian and even with less than 3% other places of worship also present.

I think it is the other way. It is now that relgion is being remebered. Nobody remembered to go to a Mosque before. Religion is remebered in times of poverty.

Read here

Saddam has sought to harness Islamic and Arab nationalist sentiment, peppering recent speeches with quotations from the Koran and recalling historic Arab battles against invaders.

Despite his secular, socialist, Baathist background, this talk resonates with many in the wider Islamic world from Rabat to Jakarta who see the war as a violation of a Muslim land.

1. The background is secular.
2.Only in recent speeches he is using verses from Quran.

re: The Effect of War on Telecom Harumpf!!
It would be nice to live in a warm and fuzzy happy world.
Again I'll mention, if the Arabs woulda stepped up on their own and thrown Sadaam out of Kuwait in 1991 we would not be there.

Totally agree it should be stopped. But there are many millions more in the same situation in many other countries. And it has been going on for many years as well. So why didn't we do anything for them?

And by the way, what Israel is doing to the Palestinians is as big a crime as what Saddam has been doing. And yes, they have WMD and are willing to use them. And yes, Sharon's war crimes have been documented. So why is we don't act in this case?
