re: The Effect of War on TelecomThen tell me one case where an army has stopped or at least caught a terrorist. The Israeli army might claim that but proof is not to be seen. In Afghanistan neither Omar Mullah nor Bin Laden have been caught. A mad dog like Hecmatiar is even back on in scene. Almost all terrorists who were directly involved in the 9/11 attack were caught and they were simply found and arrested by police men. The work of police and in some countries intelligence services is to find these people before they strike and then proof what they were after. The danger of terrorists doesnGÇÖt lie in their weapons. It is more the fact that they can strike anywhere and in any possible way. It is sure than an army doesnGÇÖt have the capability to do the necessary investigations.
re: The Effect of War on TelecomYes, I woke up this morning and realized that the US looks more and more like the 1930's Germany... a country humiliated (in this case by 9/11), and looking for a "final solution". The people unanimous behind their leader, government propaganda everywhere, the media less and less objective (especially TV), citizens of the wrong ethnic background being harassed and sometimes imprisoned without reason... Military solutions preferred to diplomacy, military budget ever increasing... -----------------
And interestingly enough, parts of europe also look like the 1930's. Failed economies and an unwillingness to do anything about them. International relations driven by a blind notion of appeasment. Large corporate interests doing deals with dictatorships against any sort of common sense.
And a population which is so afraid of losing lives in a war, that its willing to turn a blind eye to the worst sort of crimes committed on its very doorstep. As long as it doesn't happen within their borders (i.e. bosnia), it doesnt mean anything.
Oh yes, and a belief in powerless international institutions like the "league of nations" and signing wonderful-sounding international agreements that are treated as scraps of paper by the other side.
Leaders going, on their knees, to dictators (see the French leader's love-fest with a bloody algerian tyrant and mass murderer for an example). And a public that is willing to embrace murderers as human rights victims (see Ira Einhorn in France). If you kill a woman
And of course, a basic level of fraud and hypocracy. If your a powerless european joke, you can indulge your power fantasies in for example west africa. Great military victories await. And you don't have to worry about anyone internationally complaining. And when europeans see a need to go after "terrorists", they sink greenpeace ships. (Real terrorists, after all, are dangerous and might shoot back).
re: The Effect of War on TelecomUS Claims to be contolling more than 50% of Iraq.
In this controlled Iraq Iraquis are free from
1. Food (new food supply system not in place and even a city with a population of 40000 has not enough supplies)Bomb bakeries and other food joints so nobody has food and will become dependent on Allies for their lifeline.
2. Free from water ( they sooner the water flows the less dependent they will be on the allies) Use water supply as a weapon.
3.Free from medicines and supplies. Hospitals treat Iraqi troops and civilians. So by depriving hospitals of medicines the troops will suffer. ("New supplies cannot be made as the territory is hostile red cross")
re: The Effect of War on TelecomRockyd: you're sounding more and more like BoobieMax. So, the US is targeting bakeries and grocery stores now? Sure they are! I mean, Bush is the devil, so his minions must be doing vile, unspeakable things, right?
The Iraqis were starving under Saddam. It can't happen overnight, but there will be considerably less starvation in Iraq in the very near future.
re: The Effect of War on TelecomAfganistan is so exited about democracy and their prime minister that they import his body guards from US .Karzais body guards are from US.
Of the People = Karzai is a US afghan having hotel buisness spread accross US --------- I know it doesn't matter to you, but Afganistan suffered through 20 years of war and civil war. A great many afgans fled the country for their lives and lived as refugees because they had no other choice. Karzai came back to afganistan and is putting his life on the line to help his country. He didn't need to do that, but he did it anyway.
I know you would prefer some warlord who stayed in afganistan to be the ruler, but those people are only going to offer afganistan more wars and more death.
Whatever flaws in what the US is doing, its given afganistan and its people hope for something other than exile in the west.
Its amusing that when the US took a hands-off policy toward afganistan after the soviets left, the US was blamed and held responsible for everything bad that happened. And now, after the US intervenes and trys to fix things, its still blamed.
re: The Effect of War on TelecomGood post Skeptic. The US always seems to be damned if it does and damned if it doesn't. Everyone wants our help, but they want to dictate the terms. It's like I said in a previous post: Bill Parcells once said (paraphrase) that if they're going to ask you to cook the dinner, they should at least let you buy some of the groceries.
re: The Effect of War on TelecomSEPTIC you live in some different Universe.
The country is rulem by warlords more than pre taliban. Have you traveled or been to Afganistan
The country is currently divided in 3 major parts.
1. Some are around capital inder karzai. 2. Achunk under General Dostum. 3. Some are under Gulbuddin Hikmatyar and cronies
Each onea has own governtment (so called) imposes own taxes and custom duty Etc and is responsible for any thing that goes in that area. The truth is the country is still a begging Bowl As for AlKaida I will call it friendly fire. Weapons were american. Training was from CIA and funding was from CIA. The problem is if you start taming snakes they still remain snakes. They can bite the owners and the non owners alike.
This is same for soldiers also. After the revoking of capital punishement 3 Gulf war veterans have been served with this punisment and 3 more on row. 6 out of 66 been there is a high percentage. 10% of the entire crowd taht served the punisment.

Most shocking is the admission that some of the items during Gulf War I were fabricated!
(One date might be wrong, or are they using future dates when things unraveled).
But, they give links and references. . .
