re: The Effect of War on Telecom"And interestingly enough, parts of europe also look like the 1930's. Failed economies and an unwillingness to do anything about them. International relations driven by a blind notion of appeasment. Large corporate interests doing deals with dictatorships against any sort of common sense." skeptic

1 That is why in "USA" an affluent individual buys a Ford or a Chevy. Not a BMW, Jaguar, etc.
2 That is why if one wants to have a good wine, Brandy or beer we go to the Supermarket.
3 That is why when we want to buy/dress well, we buy Kmart or Wal-mart brands. Or better yet Regis and Kathy Lee product lines.
4 That is why you prob drink water names like AVIAN, PERRIER, etc.
5 That is why their unemployment rate is so high..
Give me a Break!!!
Oh by the way, they just found what could be WMDs right of a bridge in a bunker, in Baghdad. Gee, how could the inspectors miss that? And, I guess they would have never found it...
For your interest, we had in the 1950's and 60's, U2 spy planes with cameras that could capture the dimples on a golf ball at 50K ft. In contrast, today we can't find 55-gallon drums until we are there...
re: The Effect of War on TelecomWho invited you to Iraq. You gate crashed to steal sombody elses dinner.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Saddam has sent many, many invitations over the past dozen years or so. He miscalculated and thought we wouldn't show. Now that we're there, it may take a little time for the Iraqi's to get used to the dinner we'll be cooking, but I bet they love it.
re: The Effect of War on TelecomI know it doesn't matter to you, but Afganistan suffered through 20 years of war and civil war. A great many afgans fled the country for their lives and lived as refugees because they had no other choice. Karzai came back to afganistan and is putting his life on the line to help his country. He didn't need to do that, but he did it anyway. -------------------------------------------------- SEPTIC you live in some different Universe.
The country is ruled by warlords more than post Taliban. Have you travelled or been to Afghanistan
The country is currently divided in 3 major parts.
1. Some are around capital under Karzai. 2. A chunk under General Dostum. 3. Some are under Gulbuddin Hikmatyar and cronies
Each onea has own government (so called) imposes own taxes and custom duty Etc and is responsible for any thing that goes in that area. The truth is the country is still a begging Bowl As for Al Kaida I will call it friendly fire. Weapons were American. Training was from CIA and funding was from CIA. It was all well till they fought Russia in an American proxy war. It went sour went they started Blue on Blue. Turned their weapons on their guardians and became over ambitious. The problem is if you start taming snakes they still remain snakes. They can bite the owners and the non-owners alike.
This is same for soldiers also. After the revoking of capital punishment 3 Gulf war veterans have been served with this punishment and 3 more on row. 6 out of 66 been there is a high percentage. 10% of the entire crowd that served the punishment.
re: The Effect of War on TelecomGood post Skeptic. The US always seems to be damned if it does and damned if it doesn't. Everyone wants our help, but they want to dictate the terms. It's like I said in a previous post: Bill Parcells once said (paraphrase) that if they're going to ask you to cook the dinner, they should at least let you buy some of the groceries. -------------------------------------------------- Who invited you to Iraq. You gate crashed to steal sombody elses dinner.
re: The Effect of War on TelecomThis message is for all of the liberal, bleeding-heart, whining, Democrat, peta-loving, tree-hugging posters that have inundated this thread, which include in no specific order BobbyMax (aka LR staff), Rockyd, gardner, Light-Headed, perlh, rjmcmahon, etc.
Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our country would get its ass kicked.
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

Well said Father O'Brien. Semper Fi!
You may not condone this war but you can at least support our troops. If not, you can easily go to Canada, Mexico, or the sorry-a$$ country you fled in the first place.

Just a thought:
"Soldier follows orders from politicians who want to win the next election. It is the soldier who pays the price of bad decisions, It is the soldier who has been trained to follow the orders that trickle down the rigid chain of military hierarchy, It is the soldier who has least say in foriegn policy of the country, And it is the soldier who pays with his life if the foriegn policy creates more enemies than friends, Free speech and democracy is the only way a soldier's voice could ever be heard and I feel its good that the skeptics raise doubts and questions to keep loose cannons in check"
Please kick me...

I'd be happy to oblige.
