re: Tellium Switches IPO Bankers
With the deals and private equity placement these guys have, it looks like they've got all the cash they need to ride out the storm. They'll let a few others who are more strapped try the IPO waters and then pop when investors are more accepting, agree? They're gonna make some $$.

In this market, the offering is expected to raise $26.50 for the optical switch maker. They'll be able to buy a big bucket of chicken.

re: Tellium Switches IPO Bankers
I would like the opinions of others who care about our industry (not Steve Saunders and other writers who claim to be someone else.)

What is wrong with these two sentences from the article on Tellium?

1) One source tells Light Reading that itGÇÖs doubtful that the name will be on the prospectus cover at all.

2)Sources say TelliumGÇÖs banker change primarily revolves around Goldman Sachs's longstanding relationship with TelliumGÇÖs archrival, Ciena.

WHO ARE THE "SOURCES"? And why won't they go on record? This isn't Watergate. And this is irresponsible journalism. Some companies are playing Light Reading like a fiddle...giving false info., and hiding for cover. Or it might be that Lightreading is playing us all.

Either way, Light Reading is destroying others. CIte your sources or don't write the damn article.

(You are messing around with the livlihoods of people, and you need to take this seriously).

Any insight into what kind of valuation Tellium will command ?

The company is full of Lucent / Telecordia people with a bad track record.

What intellectual property do they have ? They slap down somebody's optical cross connect, and design the control plane - big deal. Does their IP portfolio consist of a CPU and a couple of FPGAs ?

Ciena will rule. They have a complete product portfolio in addition to a better switch.

Tellium's switches are faster, cheaper, more scalable and a smaller footprint than Ciena's. I guess the $95 million of investing must be from people with bad track records also............
