re: Swisscom Plans $2.3B FTTx RolloutI would guess GPON but if they are laying tons of fiber and preparing for an unbundled future pt-to-pt fiber cannot be ruled out.
re: Swisscom Plans $2.3B FTTx RolloutNice article, but I was hoping to read about what type of technology that will be used by Swisscom. Any insight on that?
re: Swisscom Plans $2.3B FTTx RolloutOK, on the technology front, here is what Swisscom says: "Each household is fed by a point-to-point fiber which connects the housholds directly with our central office."
Also, the carrier says it is still undertaking a request for quotation (RFQ) for the access equipment it will deploy on a broad scale.
Clarification -- From my initial discussion with Swisscom I believed it was planning to replace the copper that runs from its FTTC street cabinets with fiber as part of this new access strategy, but I misunderstood what the spokesman was telling me. This FTTH rollout involves the replacement of copper that runs from central offices to homes and businesses.
I have amended the article to reflect this clarification.
re: Swisscom Plans $2.3B FTTx RolloutRegarding the confusion of FTTC/FTTH/FTTB.This plan would replace copper to fiber regardless which FTTx strategy is going to be used.
Any insight on that?
