re: SOMA Untethers the Last Mile Had to check the calendar. Nope. Lots of good laughs in this article.

re: SOMA Untethers the Last Mile Wasn't soma the drug proposed by Aldous Huxley in "A Brave New World"? It was used to keep the masses undercontrol and happy. Interesting name for a company claiming to deliver what they do.

re: SOMA Untethers the Last Mile This shows the proprietary FWBA bubble has not fully burst yet.

Hard to believe investors still keep pouring money into these kind of proprietary costly technically non-optimal outdated solutions.

Any takers on predicting whether HSPDA or EV-DO/V based solution will take over this space or would 802.16 or the newer 802.20 will establish a niche?

SFW.

re: SOMA Untethers the Last Mile I have hopes for 802.16, but I'm not betting the farm, either.

Someday, someone will finally deliver the cost savings promised by fixed-wireless for so long. It always seems to be just around the corner.

I heard that SOMA was down to their last nickle. It sounds like this article is a last-gasp effort to drum up some cash. I understand they have a good product (Albiet proprietary), but nobody to sell to.

My money is on 802.16 and 802.20. EV-DO and EV-DV don't have enough capacity and HSPDA is a function of wcdma. If wider of acceptance of wcdma is really around 2005-2006 then that puts HSPDA at around 2008-2010. Plus mobile carriers don't have the spectrum to go after the fixed market and hspda is only downlink.

More of my money is on 802.16 since product is close to being shipped. Plus the 802.20 crowd are after mobile operators. Its going to take time anyway you cut it.

re: SOMA Untethers the Last Mile 5-year old startup that hasn't produced - or sold - a product yet. Sounds like a winner to me! (sarcasm reeking out of my pores!)
