re: Riverstone Gets HVPLS Happy BELIEVE IT.

Numerous competitors want RSTN out of the picture. Posting irrelevant information and then coming back with false innuendo.

Scepter Holdings, Inc. bought 1M shares, reported schedule 13G on 2/11.

I wouldn't bet against Raynor on this one.

Lucent is bringing this company back to life.

new revenue streams opening up...

New mgmt and new product.

Doomsayers were right 2 years ago. That was when RSTN was a different company.

re: Riverstone Gets HVPLS Happy Get real. I remember booting this "carrier grade" equipment for 25 minutes with 1,000 ATM PVC's installed and there was a time when used RiverSTONE gear was actually considered for projects when the market was flooded by rip out uninstalls because their gear sucks at BGP (99% CPU).

All of this and we found their management was crooked. And now I'm supposed to trust them with my network just because Lucent is a partner. Lucent partners with everybody. Some investment fund sticks money in this stock and now they are good? HVPLS? Customers are just now beginning to deploy VPLS. That means HVPLS will be popular in another 3 years all on stable hardware from stable companies.

Having said that, I do wish them luck. If RiverSTONE can succeed, all the vendors can!

re: Riverstone Gets HVPLS Happy
The recent Press Releases don't contain enough contracts with money to keep the company afloat.

The financials are so out of date that it is not possible to run an analysis using them.

re: Riverstone Gets HVPLS Happy Does any vendor's press release contracts add up to enough to keep them afloat...? This seems like a justfication looking for a target rather than a rational argument.

How old is the data you are looking at? If you are just basing this off Yahoo, then perhaps you should join their quarterly announcement calls.

There are a great number of American companies that have had a fair share of financial issues in the last few years. If the company has the strength, despite that, to release new and interesting product into an interesting part of the market; start to grow revenue and get some decent wins; replace their senior management with people who have a history of ethical business practice then you have to give them credit. To continue the Cabletron bashing just sounds like sour grapes based on heritage. What was that phrase about the "sins of the Father..."?

I am the first to admit that the financials of other organisations are more attractive than those of Riverstone, but there are a great many that are not so strong.

And in answer to those who poo poo H-VPLS... that is a fine position for a CSCO to take as they do not need to be technology innovators. For the like of Riverstone, innovation is what will build their business. There are some forward thinking operators in the world (mostly outside North America) who will buy this technology today and allow the Riverstones to beat the Ciscos. They probably said the same thing about JNPR and having a modular operating system.....

Without these companies putting their foot in the water with innovation the industry would lose it's edge and we would all be worse off for that, despite the heritage.

Riverstone shareholder at 3.20 :-(
JNPR Shareholder at $20.97 ;-)
CSCO shareholder at $16.85 :-) and $67.28 :-((((

re: Riverstone Gets HVPLS Happy My sentiments exactly.

The glass is now half full for Riverstone.

re: Riverstone Gets HVPLS Happy That Riverstoned keeps making payroll is worthy of note. Hate to see more tech people in the unemployment lines. whether they ever amount to a serious player is secondary to keeping people employed.

re: Riverstone Gets HVPLS Happy metroman,

I looked in Edgar where all such valid filing exist. The last filing was in Spetember of 04 and was a restatement of 03 results.

So, my comment is that there is no credible evidence either positive or negative available. The quarterly calls are interesting gossip at this time. But you should take what people say with a grain of salt. This is "Nortel the Junior Leagues".

My experience with Riverstone products in actual use has been entirely negative. However, that experience stopped over a year ago when any that we had used were all replaced with other gear. It is possible that the issues of those days are behind them.
