re: Remember the Food InsecureWe don't celebrate Thanksgiving at all, but we do have a different solution for "food insecurity" here on Bonaire. There is a price ceiling on what are considered 'basic' foods: rice, beans, goat, a few kinds of vegetables, and at least one other meat (can't remember if it is beef or pork). It's illegal to sell them for over a certain amount, and that amount is calculated to be enough to feed a large family with a single wage earner. It is assumed that everyone can attach themselves to at least one wage earner, and grocery stores are compensated for their loss by the government. Works pretty well. The per-capita income is only around $10K USD, but we have to have restrictive immigration rules to prevent us from being overwhelmed by immigration from neighboring countries, because that standard of living is extremely high in comparison to theirs.
