re: MWIF Demos All-IP CoreA few years ago MWIF was interesting but it looks like the real story for all-IP networking is now firmly in the hands of 3GPP. This is particularly the case since 3GPP2 is now planning to align with the 3GPP results.
The MWIF demo by Telcordia and Toshiba is then really only a demo of a draft concept that no-one will adopt.
P.S. The real standard fight will be between 3GPP and IETF over the use of SIP .. but that's another story
re: MWIF Demos All-IP CoreFinally, I am back home, I have done a 3 month tour to meet with several European and Asian wireless operators to see what is in and what is out. On minds of most of these operators is how do I bring wireless data and all the associated enhanced data services to their subscriber base. Majority of these operators overwhelmingly want to use their equipment they already deployed. The reason being is, it is too painful to rip out a newly deployed GGSN (Europe) and or PDSN (Asia). The number one pain point is investment but other reasons were given as interface issues, training operations on the new platform, etc.
With that said, companies that are making the next generation GGSN and PDSN do not seem to be getting traction. Companies that are directly addressing the operator pain points are getting a lot of traction and I have heard 2 to 3 companies mentioned consistently that are addressing these issues. I think it will be a matter of time before these 2 to 3 companies take the market by storm!

re: MWIF Demos All-IP CoreLooks like MWIF will close by the end of this year and merge into OMA. That means their original work on all-IP architectures is "completed" (= no one really cares what they did) and the only work they will take into OMA is some application stuff.
