re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy 'Fraid I don't know, Red Panda. Since you get an infinite number of do-overs, I guess one failure isn't so bad. Now, if a system can't get certified after a year of trying - that'll be interesting.

I really do wonder how big a deal certification will be. The arguments for it are obvious, but a year or so from now, when carriers have gotten more comfortable with Carrier Ethernet -- will lack of certification really be a barrier? Hard to tell right now.

To clarify one thing - Covaro didn't fail the test; they're saying they haven't submitted anything for testing yet. A "prioritization of resources," according to a spokeswoman.

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy Well here is the list of those who most likely would have participated (MEF members):

Juniper is noticeably absent from the list of certified vendors.

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy Just to confirm, Covaro says it *didn't* fail the test; it didn't submit a product to be tested.

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy I was just about to post a similiar question too. Foundry has really been pushing hard in the market lately, replacing Cisco even for some. So I'm curious to know why they aren't involved.

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy I am a little concerned my vendor is not involved in the MEF9 process - Foundry Networks. We use Foundry for our 10gigabit ethernet metro network. Interesting. Especially considering some of the issues we have with their gear. Anyone else have some information on Foundry's lack of involvement here?

Diatem who we were planning on deploying for our provisioning software for both Foundry and Cisco is no longer in business. They should be removed from the MEF list. I personally shutdown their fibre connection a couple of months ago...

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy Dont see much of Foundry in Europe anymore. See more of Avici than them. Poor cousin to Juniper and Cisco bigger brothers really.

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy Many vendors' equipments = marketing hype.
BTW, Covaro is one of them...

Inadequate gear can't be certified with MEF9.

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy Don't be so surprised c_headed, Juniper has too much sympathy to IP rather to L2 services.

The focus of MEF9 is L2

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy I think it is a resource issue as FDRY is a key member of MEF. I would also like to say that I think the MEF is doing a good job, but I would like to see more involvement from the University community and more young minds looking at the problems under key educators instead of filtering everything through the IEEE, ITU, IETF, or PYFWG (pick you favorite). I am sure Extreme simply prioritized the publicity above real business as usual.

You will note one special feature about "poor" Foundry and that is "rich" Shadowpawn is the only one calling them poor right now. They are a solid fixture in my camp and we are feeding them well and they are jumping around like fleas on a mission for us. They seem very motivated nowadays and honestly I feel sorry for none of them. Thanks.

NOTE: I think Extreme and Juniperola wer made for each other and wish they would just get into bed. Looking forward to Saturday mornings again to relax and just have a laugh watching stupid cartoons.

re: MEF: Certification Wasn't Easy Just curious to the extent FDRY is deployed in Carrier networks. Not sure how strong their story is - using Raisecomm as their edge device "raises" some questions. FDRY does well in Enterprise.

MEF should not have influence by the University community, as you said real business should be prioritized over publicity and science projects.

cheers,
lg
