re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup Its a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, junk bond stock, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it, run a company into the ground then take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.

re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup Of course, I can't prove this. But I can't prove the best part either... toll booth willy is dead. Did you know that? He was fired from a start up three years ago during the economic downturn of 1998. Two people watched toll booth willy walk into a Central Office just before it blew up. They said he went in to check on a major alarm on a softswitch. It blew up and took all of toll booth willy with it. Within three months of the explosion, the two witnesses, they were dead. One killed himself in his LAN wiring closet; the other hung himself with single mode fiber.

re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup Who is toll booth willy?

re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup You know what toll booth willy looks like to me, with his good bag and cheap shoes? He looks like a rube. A well scrubbed, hustling rube with a little taste. Good nutrition has given him some length of bone, but he's not more than one generation from poor white trash, are you, toll booth willy? And that accent you've tried so desparately to shed? Pure optical networking. What's your father, toll booth willy? Is he an FPGA engineer? Does he stink of the lab? You know how quickly the VCs found you... all those tedious sticky fumblings in the leather seats of boardrooms...while you could only dream of getting out... getting anywhere... getting all the way to the Light Reading message boards.

re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup I think what scares the crap out of everybody is that when they look in the mirror, they see toll booth willy.

re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that Toll Booth Willy, for lack of a better word, is good. Toll Booth Willy is right. Toll Booth Willy works.

re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup tjs - thanks for the post.

Looks like the TMX-880 and the "new" GX-550/CBX-500 are junk made by people who no longer understand the product - since all the smart Cascade/Nexabit folks bailed long ago.

Allow me to translate into a Jesse-Jackson-ese....
(...actually this may be more Don King ;)

The execution of the institution
saw no resolution to antiquated solution
so they grabbed the junk 'neath the moldy bunk out of desparation from the talent evacuation

They claim in name to keep the flame
But hearts grow cold from stories old

Their dwindled number - their stock in slumber
They've "made the pill to cure my ill"
But do I bite on a promise slight?
They've lost the dream - they've lost the team
The Jersey boys cannot delivuh.

(...hey, its Friday...)

re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup The TNX-880 (aka Nexabit) isn't real and you know it as well as I do.

Yeah, but don't forget, the whole thing is going to be managed by a non-existent new management tool, so that makes up for it. You know, two negatives equal a positive. I hear O'Shea has recently instituted this as Lucent's new development model.

re: Lucent Unveils Product Lineup I have been reading a lot of trash on LU. I work for a mjor carrier. Let me tell you something about LU:

1) They know quality
2) They know technology
3) They know software better than any one
4) They lack good management!..I I agree with you

LU invented pretty much all the basic technologies that we are enjoying today. Let's give some credit to those Bell Lab's scientists!
