re: Welcome to the Future

Yes, I agree "wireless start-ups", the VC rage, meaning, as you say, User Inferfacings, mobile user-facing content Apps.

Less focused on, or understood (and hence funded) by VCs are "mobile infrastructure" solutions, like a wireless network software solution that enables the WiFi spectrum to operate just like (and fully interoperate with) 3G/4G wireless networks. Allows for Managed Data Offload seamless/User transparent 3G/4G cellular hand-off (auto-roaming)-to-Wi-Fi -- and not some Satrbucks hotspot, but wide-range (WANM, not LAN) WiFi MetroZones.

Now you've got a boradband wireless AutoBahn (p.s., Wi-Fi  >7X faster than 4G/LTE) to support all those media-rich, bandwidth-consumptive Mobile Apps running on ever-smarter mobile phones: "Bandwidth-on-Demand" for the Gigabyte Generation.

And then add ability for telco value-added services (SMS, MMS, etc.)-over Wi-Fi? and you have: "3G/4G-Smart" Wi-Fi.

That next-gen mobile internet "infrastructure" is a reality: www.blu-linx.com  [MobileTech start-up "Outlier"]

re: Welcome to the Future

If you follow the money, mobile + social + location is the best spot to be in now. And as far as M2M, looks like mHealth is the most promising.
