re: Acme Pans Rivals Newport has recently completed a successful -ú6 Million placing and so have not run out of money.

Acme Packet filled a gap in the smaller SBC market and until now, enjoyed the rewards that brought ... Newport has a superior product series in the 1460 and are now well placed to drive home their advantage.

re: Acme Pans Rivals Yes they did receive more cash. According to the press releases that Newport product advantage has been there for over 18 months. But in that time ACME has grown massively and by comparison Newport has sold little whilst burning through considerably more than 6 million. Newport really has to start converting its advantage into sales. LetGÇÖs see if the promise is finally fulfilled.

re: Acme Pans Rivals Not so fast! Sansay, Inc. out of San Diego has quickly become a force and serious contender in the SBC space. With now over 120 customers worldwide - and partnerships, certifications and co-deployments with companies like Broadsoft and Level3, Sansay is not only in the race - but moving up the ladder and pulling ahead of it's competitors!

re: Acme Pans Rivals If you actually go and test SBCs you will find Newport is severely lacking. Bigger physical size does not mean higher performance it seems, since at least two other SBC vendors (Acme and Nextone) beat out Newport. And they're a fraction of the physical size. And in terms of features Acme and Nextone are light years ahead of Newport, and features are a big deal. Sorry, but Newport is just not in the race really. Acme, Nextone, and Sonus are the only serious guys left in this space.

re: Acme Pans Rivals I had the opportunity to talk with NexTone's VP of Marketing today. Here's what he had to say about Ory's comments:

re: Acme Pans Rivals Re Acme CEO comments...

How does that saying go? 'People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones'?

Maybe Mr Ory should be careful about dissing every and any company he can think of -- that kind of behavior has a habit of coming back and biting people where it hurts.

I can't help feeling that all it'll take is for Acme to make one wrong turn or have one really bad quarter and the metaphoric knives will be out.

And as other posters have noted, Newport has raised more money, as reported on this site:

re: Acme Pans Rivals I share the same sentiment as John Longo, that Acme is beginning to feel the pinch of a changing SBC market. VoIP networks are growing in scale, placing extra demands on the SBC. Newport's 1460 series was purposely designed and manufactured to meet those demands. There are no guarantees, but the emergence of these larger scale networks could benefit Newport and in that respect, I believe Newport may well be a company whose time is now fast approaching.

I'm with you on the "if you ain't got nothing nice to say, don't say anything". But when I read the blog I'm kinda wondering if these 3 sentences out of a whole lunch interview weren't just 3 sentences in a whole lunch interview, and your reporter just focused on them because it made for a good blog. Know what I mean? ;)
Like if your reporter asked "Aren't you worried about your competitors stealing market share?"
