No, it was cisco's mistake to get fooled by monterey into thinking the product was much further along than it actually ways.

Most people would be shocked at the lack of due dilligance that goes on in M&A for technology companies. Often its marketing people and executives making these decisions in the dark without any true evaluation of the company or its technology. Lucent (with ascend) is the all-time best example of this.

2) Lucent - Nexabit?
3) Lucent - Chromatis?

The ascend deal was ridiculous, no question. But lets give some credit to the all-time greatest blunders listed above.
