re: Intel Plots Home-Grown 802.11 Does anyone think that Intel might do a IEEE 802.11a+b + Bluetooth chip???

re: Intel Plots Home-Grown 802.11 Definite possibility. There are already a couple of companies doing WLAN/Bluetooth. Both 802.11b & Bluetooth use the same 2.4GHz band. Gets a bit more tricky with 11a, that uses 5GHz. But seems like multi-mode support is the way the world is moving (just slowly...)

re: Intel Plots Home-Grown 802.11 802.11b and Bluetooth (802.15) might just happen. The PHY layers are very different. However, there is convergence in the MAC layer. And, the TCP/IP layers and applications on top are of course the same.

However, I see a market need for the following combinations:
802.11a/b and GPRS (GSM's 2.5G solution)
802.11a/b and 1XRTT (CDMA's 2.5G solution)
and
802.11a/b and hyperlan 2 (Europe's standard)
