re: Hitachi GPON Gets RUS Approval ITU 984.3 allows 2 types of multiplexing ATM or GEM based. The ATM based is a hold over from the ITU 983 spec. 1.2d/1.2u is not true GPON, because to me(opinion) part of the GPON selling point is 2.4d/1.2u. Today BPON can provide those speeds, I'm just trying to think like a potential customer. You know as well as I do that a T3,T2 or T1 carrier is not going to upgrade from EPON or BPON unless GPON can really help sustain the network for any future needs. I just think that some companies have done these BPON+ OLT's because that still utilize the ATM based Multiplexing.
