re: Headcount: Job Makers, Deal Breakers Is that the Bernie Ebbers version of calculating percentage ? Now wonder their projections of Internet growth were off. They must have been using the same method!!!!

re: Headcount: Job Makers, Deal Breakers Dear Author and Editors,

Check your math.

130,000 - 1,000 = difference of 129,000

129,000/130,000 X 100 = 99.23%

re: Headcount: Job Makers, Deal Breakers
The actual number was 1000. If they were off by
99.23% their estimate would have been 1992.3 since
99.23% of 1000 is 992.3.

Try 129000/1000 * 100 = 12900% off

Now check it. 100% of 1000 is a 1000 and they were
off by 129 of them thats 129000 + 1000 = 130000

Take it from me as a child of the Telecom downturn
I spend a lot of time calculating ever diluting
stock values.

re: Headcount: Job Makers, Deal Breakers Jack,

I stand corrected. That makes two of us wrong (the author -- then me). I suppose the only difference being that I'll 'stand' here and admit my error.

re: Headcount: Job Makers, Deal Breakers Why do you blame President Bush for this? Specifically relating to the telecom downturn and loss of jobs, the inflated internet expectations, and irrational exuberence which followed, all this happened on former President Clinton's watch.

re: Headcount: Job Makers, Deal Breakers More than 3 million jobs have disappeared from the private sector since the Bush2 administration took office, including at least a half million in telecom. Blame whomever you will, but we haven't seen those kinds of numbers since the Great Depression.

re: Headcount: Job Makers, Deal Breakers Anyone who blames George Bush for this downturn is nothing but an ignorant, bleeding heart liberal who is too stupid to keep his or her job, and is out of work for more reasons than who the President is. Under Clinton's watch:

1) Ebbers and Worldcom's and Frontier/Global Crossing, all the others were playing revenue shell games and ripping everyone off.
2) Tyco and Enron happened.
3) Scandals everywhere on Wall Street, inflating the market and the economy, and blowing hot air into the bubble that burst so painfully.

When you have a President with no ethics, people think they too can slide. It may be subconscious. But you have a general "culture" that rewards bad behavior. Just like a company with a lousy CEO (too many to count, and not just in Telecom!). The rank and file will be lousy too, in that guy's image. Bush is no saint, no doubt about it. And Cheney's as crooked as they come. Bechtel and Halliburton contracts in Iraq ain't no coincidence. But the facts are the facts: it was Clinton's show when the telecom meltdown started.

re: Headcount: Job Makers, Deal Breakers So, now we've established that Cramer and Harvey can add "Bush-basher" to their resumes. It's nice to have another clue to help understand why and how LR colors the facts to match their political and socio-economic philosophies.

Or perhaps the Repubican National Committee refused to buy ads on LR... it's happened before.
