re: Force10 Relocates Jobs to IndiaMy only response to all US engineers upset by jobs moving abroad is to remind them of the times (1980s) when US companies like Coke & IBM used to lobby (read: pressurize) the Indian government to open up the local market, all in the name of globalization. The argument, particularly for IBM, was better/cheaper/efficient technology. The Indian government, in order to protect local companies, did not want to remove trade barriers, but finally relented.
Now the situation has turned around, and it is now India's turn to provide cheaper/efficient/better (in some cases, at least) solutions, US should go ahead and do what India did - bear the short-term pain to harvest the long-term benefits of globalization. At least, that's what we were told back then.
re: Force10 Relocates Jobs to IndiaMy advice is to get out of this industry. Leverage your skills in the banking, finance, security, or defense industries (they are all hiring, you just have to look hard to find the jobs). Or move to a country with incredible growth like China or India. America will continue to stagnate with the RBOC’s having a stranglehold on rules/regulations in their favor (gotta love politics).
Leave the industry and you will be much happier like I did. Other industries are not so grim like telecom.
re: Force10 Relocates Jobs to India Do anyone know what would happen to the SS payments the H1Bs and Greencard holders made during their stay here? Is there a provision for them to collect it or has it gone to the bucket for good?
re: Force10 Relocates Jobs to IndiaYes getting out of telecom/data center or system building makes a hell lot of sense -- too much hard work for little reward.
Real estate looks promising -- too little work for modereate to large rewards!! No wonder every corner in SV has springing up so many real esate related offices
re: Force10 Relocates Jobs to IndiaYou got to understand many startups are run like a mafia family. First the DON's get the money and then they recruit cronies and then general public. Continued employment depends NOT on merit but how you please the dons and cronies....
So, whom are you asking to call a spade a spade?
Post 2000, people with no option to get in public companies worked in startups and I feel sorry for this class.....

Green card holders do - but they have to work a minimum of 40 quarters (yes, 10 years) before they are eligible to collect a dime.
Well, I'm a US citizen with > 20 years of contributions. I'm eligible to collect (should I survive to retirement age) but don't expect to collect a dime. The social security money is GONE.
re: Force10 Relocates Jobs to IndiaWell, so much for the many of us who took our fat bubble salaries and stock options and joined the Republican party!
Feldman is just doing a "Freud"....many people who are not natural liars choke when it comes to laying down crap they don't really believe. Especially when that crap is costing people their jobs.
Outsourcing is NOT inevitable folks. It is PURELY the result of arbitrage. Arbitrage means (in this case) the foreign exchange rate is RIGGED.
If the exchange rate was anywhere close to what it should be, OUTSOURCING WOULD DIE ON ITS OWN, because truth be told, there IS NO SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC JUSTIFICATION FOR IT.
THE IRONY IS THE EXCHANGE RATE ITSELF IS A "SPIN": A BIG LIE.
Vote tomorrow with your hand on your wallet, cause they are out to steal it.
re: Force10 Relocates Jobs to Indiait varies from country to country. a bunch of EU nations have a treaty with US wherein they 'prove' to the US govt that they have a similar system and so their payroll deduction for SS is not done in US.
however that leaves out the two major h1 nations - india and china.
india has a compulsory scheme called provident fund wherein 10% of ur base salary is taken and matched to an extent by employer contrib. its invested in govt securities. so every indian who ever works in india in organized sector like IT has a PF account.
however no prizes for guessing that the US govt has indicated no interest in signing a treaty inspite of repeated requests by the Indian govt.
nobody likes to give up free $$. you may say 'take it or leave it' and many/most will still take it but it doesnt hide the fact that injustice is going on.
injustice breeds resentment. resentment leads to a very unsympathetic attitude when its the US side that is having a problem.
