re: EBIF Coming to DTAs

So it's good enough for delivering your own apps but not good enough for SDV signaling for Tivo?

re: EBIF Coming to DTAs

The way I understand it, this EBIF implementation would be more of a push model... they'd just send the app to the DTA from the headend.

And if force-tuning is involved, it sounds like it would work sort of like the tuning adapter does with TiVo today...  however, the tuning adapter has a return path to set up the SDV session.

But force-tuning also works in TiVo's IP backchannel proposal whereby the box sends that request upstream via the box's Ethernet port.  But the concept might also work with DTA force-tuning... the difference is that you'd have to send the channel change request for a switched channel to the DTA using a PC, ipad, iphone or some other type of internet-connected device. I believe  this is similar to the concept ActiveVideo is proposing for the deliver of VoD over one-way cable plant... you'd use the Internet as your upstream to send requests to the headend to shoot over apps to the set-top box.
