re: Dell Gets Into the CDN Business

Sounds very me-too. Edgecast is not a big player in CDNs, Dell/Force-10 is not a big player with telcos. What is the selling point here ?

re: Dell Gets Into the CDN Business

I think it's going to be tough to put together any CDN offering that's not very me-too. That's the challenge Dell faces.

One selling point will be this ecosystem of partners they build up. But really, a lot of CDN demand is going to be vanilla, and it's going to be hard for Dell or anyone else to stand out.

You're right about Force10 and carriers, but CDNs are a place where Dell's server prowess can actually matter, so it's a pretty good market for showing off what they can do. Dell seems to really want to get aggressive in networking.

Now, on EdgeCast's side, it seems like a pretty good move. They still have to play third fiddle to Akamai and Limelight, but now they've got a huge tech partner to work with.
