re: Cuts for Tellium? One of thge most weird thing about the Tellium Management team is that all co-founders except one have been pushed out of the company.

There is no demand for optical switches for the core optical network. Also, too many suppliers havw made the situation worst. To meet the current demand no more than two or three vendors optical switch vendors are needed.

re: Cuts for Tellium? I don't see how Tellium can survive when there are already news reports that major telecoms are buying second hand equipment. In addition there are rumors that other telecom manufacturers in NJ are reviving older-cheaper equipment because the major telecoms will not outlay the millions of dollars for the latest and greatest gear.

Talkin' out your ass as usual, BobbieMax (Harvey Mudd). There are several founders still at Tellium, Krishna Bala being the most notable.

Some of the earlier founders (such as Rich Vodhanel and Jack Tomlinson) are optical transmission experts, and when tellium chopped their optics (they used to have some DWDM and EDFAs), those guys left (I believe of their own accord), because there was nothing left for them to do.

re: Cuts for Tellium? This chap had an incredible record in Lucent of much destroying every project he took charge of, after spending loads of money. I don't know what Harry Carr was thinking when he brought Proetta on board and incredibly enough promoted him all the way to the top. Proetta is technically clueless, incredibly egoistic and a damned lousy manager. Its a pity since the company has many talented people.

re: Cuts for Tellium? Snapdragon is spot-on. I worked on a project under Proetta's "leadership" and I still haven't decided which was worse - the managerial incompetance or the blatant corruption. No personal or professional integrity at all. He is the main reason I never even considered interviewing at Tellium.

re: Cuts for Tellium? About one-third to one-half of the people at Telium are from Lucent. Included in those people are managers who can't manage and workers who don't work. Rumors have it, is that some of them were forced out of Lucent but wound up at Telium.
