re: CTIA 2010: Mobile TV Vendors Learn From FLO TV

The challenge for ATSC is that it requires new chipsets in the phones, so none on the market today can support it. But, Siano says that device manufacturers will launch their first devices in the first half of 2010.

So Qualcomm finally submits to FLO's dead business model walking... but where's the stand-alone business model in FTA mobile TV, and how "mobile" is wifi-based TV on mobile devices?  Time for more mobile TV schooling.

Don't all the mobile TV broadcast solutions have the same problem as FLO -- that you need a dedicated receiver (chip) in the phone?

With FTA, the business model would be ad supported, like normal broadcast content. Operators could also charge for premium services or content. It also gets more interesting when paired with a service like MobiTV.

I think a lesson from FLO TV is that dedicated spectrum doesn't work. At least with MobiTV, you have the option of 3G versus WiFi.
