re: Cox to Stream Live TV to Tablets

The iPad is the target device, according to Cox PR. Waiting to get the demo...

re: Cox to Stream Live TV to Tablets

Timing of these apps is interesting. Just take Comcast, for one. Comcast and Cox led with mobility (Comcast last year, Cox Mobile Connect, back in March) but Cox is now moving ahead with iPad live linear, whereas Comcast's iPad app was for on-demand. Steve said on demand would be next for Cox, whereas we're waiting for Xfinity live. (Any word on when?)

Thanks for mentioning that, Jonathan. I just got a quick demo myself, and they're targeting 35 live TV channels at the start (only offering channels they have secured the rights to stream to iPads in the home).  NDS was their development partner for the client.  We taped a demo and did a short video interview with Cox's Steve Necessary.  We'll post it as soon as we can.

Gaming consoles, by the way, are on the development agenda, just further out than tablets and PCs.  JB

re: Cox to Stream Live TV to Tablets

Is Cox going to sell this package to non-cable-subscribers?

Will the pricing reflect a substantial discount, since Cox doesn't have to maintain the premise feed?

All this nonsense about adding tablet streams has no value unless its unbundled.

Why can't the press ask these simple questions?

re: Cox to Stream Live TV to Tablets

Look closer, this isn't the same thing as what Cablevision is doing.  They are streaming the full channel line-up to the iPad, not 35 measley channels for which Cox is able to secure rights to stream to the tablet.

Why is Cablevision able to stream the full channel line-up?  Is it because they are better negotiators with the content industry?  Or, are they fundamentally doing something different (or the same -- hint, hint) in how those channels are delivered?

Look more closely and you will see...
