re: Corona Gets a Boost Alcatel has sold the CoSine platform in the past.

http://www.cosinecom.com/newse...

This sounds more like IP enablement and BRAS additions to the DSLAM which have been a long time coming.

Only Nortel and CoSine are left in the dedicated IP services switch space (Celox, Corona, SpringTide, Ellacoya, have all left or closed shop) while the edge router vendors continue to enter that space.

re: Corona Gets a Boost I had heard some really bad things. Definitely not at all proper to post them here.

Just wanted to confirm it was him.

re: Corona Gets a Boost
I agree with BobbyMax that they are just prolonging management salary.

You cannot build up a networking router vendor company with just 5 million dollars in the bank, no existing customer, and no immediate customer in pipeline, and the company attempting to do an interface module for another company unrelated to its core business.

At some point, they must have had a good engineering team to come this far, but my guess is that most people who put the system together should have already left. So, trusting the engineering capabilities of remaining engineering looks a big bet by Alcatel. It is not clear what Alcatel saw in them at this point, except that Corona can give away software previously licensed for its own machine (assuming itGÇÖs licenses allow so.).

If VCs truly wanted to try infusing a new life, they would have put GÇ£under new managementGÇ¥ board on the companyGÇÖs front door.

re: Corona Gets a Boost You are assuming that whatever engineering folks left at Corona are going to be doing the IP services card deal. Am willing to bet that work has been farmed out to Wipro already.

Alcatel is getting a new card, some new software additions and an old code base that was developed by Corona with VC money.

The management is getting paid their big bucks.

What are the VCs getting out of all this ?

Looks like someone in the management is a good VC snake charmer. Maybe they got sold on the idea that the Alcatel deal would keep the development of the product current while waiting for the market to come back in the near future. Some future that is.

re: Corona Gets a Boost Re:heard some really bad things.
Joe Stanton is one of the top Carrier reps in the country, has had a rough ride with his last two startups Corona and Zaffire, but who hasn't.
With significant stops at Cascade, Ascend, and one of the first Directors at Level 3 I'll save the tears, solid reps with real sales are hard to come by, so when this cluster $^*&! recession turns around I expect to see him back in the cat bird seat again.
After 13 years as a top executive recruiter I should be able to Judge talent FYI

Thank you Mrs. Stanton.

In any event, it is excellent that in this day and age, people's history do not follow them to their next job. If his did, there would be trouble.

re: Corona Gets a Boost Worked with this guy. Chicken man, no need to ask...you know the answer.

Let me put this in a non-incriminating way: Momma said if you can't say anything nice about a completely corrupt and devious man...

re: Corona Gets a Boost Please, obviously you have no intestinal fortitude or fact to elaborate, how many people in the last few years have been shaded by the companies they have worked for. Slandering someones reputation directly or indirectly without fact smells of something. I would love to have a look at your resume, by the sounds of it two unemployed individuals with a couple of failed startups and no actual sales or technical accomplishments. Must be nice to ride around the industry waiting for others to put themselves out there in the line of fire. Corrupt and devious?
You just described the top 100 executives in this industry over the last 4 years, and yet you are still waiting for one of those people to call with a job offer and not actually doing anything of substance. If you were you would not be airing your dribble on the local rag message board.
Why not try a good book or better yet video game, Im sure that will get you closer to finding a job than this garbage. I have candidates that are proactive and professional looking to help turn things around rather than blithering about which exec hurt their feelings or not. If you are not able to survive in a shark pool, try the local integrator or CompUSA.
Very weak.

re: Corona Gets a Boost I also worked with Stanton, and have to admit he knows a lot of people in the indusrty. I heard he has retained Heidrick and Struggles and wants to lead the next great startup in the optical networking industry. I hope he lands on his feet again. No need to slander someone when they are down on their luck.

re: Corona Gets a Boost Netvet,
I'm 100% with you. This is a tough business and leading successful sales efforts at a start-up is even tougher. Stanton is a proven entity. No doubt that he may have stepped on some "chicken toes", but what successful start-up exec hasn't.
If folks want to sit on the sidelines and take pot shots they should just get their wussy butts back into the kitchen.
