Is Benu for Real I've tried to use google and bing to find what products Benu Networks has avaiable.  I can't find anything on these guys.  They appear to have a $26M injection of cash but this is very disappointing.  There web site provides no tangible information to even find what they do.  I guess no need to look any longer at Benu Networks.  It's back to Cisco for me.

re: Comcast, Moto Invest in CMAP Startup

This article pegs Benu as a cable equipment player. However, the Benu website says its making a family of "broadband Intelligent Session Controllers" and the first one is a Mobile Edge Gateway (MEG). [note that they are category creating here].

The management background has lots of Moto and Riverdelta.

Like many start-ups they could be trying to be many things to many people and will develop the first thing that sticks.

What are they doing?

Thanks for checking back on this; looks like they've added a few details to their site that were not there a few weeks ago and that the MEG is the first product they're providing any concrete detail on.  Unless the picture has changed due to the Moto-Google deal or something has caused them to alter their longer-term product focus , my understanding is that they are still working with Motorola on a CMAP/CCAP device. But we don't expect to see initial ccap products until late this year or sometime in 2012, so they just may not be revealing any details about that yet. But it's high time to take another look around. JB

Just poking around there, looks like they have gotten around to identifying Comcast Interactive Capital's involvement, or at least mentioning that CIC's Managing Director Louis Toth is on the Benu board of directors.

re: Comcast, Moto Invest in CMAP Startup

Clearly it makes sense to not put all the eggs in one basket.  A service provider is a service provider in my opinion so what's good for cable should be good for telco as well.  The labels as we all know are more historical anyway as their data/media centers house similar equipment.

But believe it or not, the wimax/mobile realm borrows some functionality from docsis such as the scheduling algrothims e.g. unsolicited grant, real time polling, best effort, etc.  This I think allows Benu to more easily port the box so it fits in a CO instead of a headend.  =o)
