"I'm not going anywhere," Russo told Light Reading in an interview this afternoon. "My perception of the opportunity in front of us is actually better than it's ever been.

re: Cisco's Russo Resigns He made a god-awful amount of cash at the expense of every normal person in this industry who actually may one day need to apologise for the mistakes of 2000. (maybe the telecom network can't be replaced by one big router on an lambda?)

let him be to retire in luxury. don't be mean. he deserves his tranquility.

Enjoy, carl.

And I hope nobody threw that goodbye cake in your face.

re: Cisco's Russo Resigns You're kidding, right?? 10% decline is bad?

Compare this to Nortel:

First Quarter 2002 Revenue Breakdown from Continuing Operations:

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2001... Metro and Enterprise Networks revenues decreased 23 percent... Long-Haul Networks revenues increased 5 percent

Compared to the first quarter of 2001... Metro and Enterprise Networks segment revenues decreased 47 percent and Optical Long-Haul Networks segment revenues decreased 77 percent, each reflecting considerable declines across all major regions

re: Cisco's Russo Resigns The latest "official" numbers (directly from a May analyst presentation) are (US only) :
700 customers, 35000 systems, 1,000,000 TDM ports, 40,000 FE 10/100 ports, 6500 GigE ports.

You're right - the majority of these went in small numbers to smaller CLECs (that was the original marketing of the 454) although some large carriers (eg Worldcom) have taken larger orders.

re: Cisco's Russo Resigns Oh no, CSCO is losing the optical race! The race to margin erosion and ultimate bankruptcy!

Watch CSCO pick up best of breed optical companies on the cheap. Yeah they'll get some more wrong but eventually they'll figure out where the winners are. They don't care about the optical business right now. Too busy milking the Catlyst cash cow and watching Juniper fall on its face.

re: Cisco's Russo Resigns The dirty politics of reorganization is the real behind Russo's departure. Mr. Russo was the most qualified person to head the optical business, but he was made to report to Mrs. JayShree Ullal. Mrs. Ullal has no experience in the Optical Networking Industry. She also does not have experience in telecom industry. In spite of all these drawbacks she was made the optical division and Russo was made to report to her by Chambers and Mazola.

Chambers thinks that he can put anyone wheather he/she has any relevant industry experience or not.

re: Cisco's Russo Resigns Heard that WCOM was looking for a bit more stability in the boxes.

The management software also leaves much to be desired, though we are working pretty hard on the software...
