re: Ciena to Merge, Shrink I think the handwriting is on the wall in Gotham City these days. I saw the network world aticles that were mentioned (below). I wonder how Ciena feels about Gotham telling stories out of school and stealing thunder from the ONI closing? Hmmm sounds like the last act of a deperate company.

re: Ciena to Merge, Shrink Ciena, like Cisco, thoght increasing its revenue by acquiring companies in California. Ciena did not perform due dilligence on Cyras. Did they hit a gold mine? No, they hit a pit full of trash. They will never recover $3.5 Billion spent to buy Ciena.

There were ample warnings for Ciena to act, but its president and CEO chose to ignore them.

The acquisition of ONI Systems is a big joke.NI products and technologies are not likely to be adopted by most of the vendors.

Are you sure? I thought it was when you faked the theft of an interface board at a trade show?

re: Ciena to Merge, Shrink
Ciena should have gone with a company that has a product that functions, [heard gothams was.. well... ??? not there yet} as well as with a company that actually has shipping product.. Ciena is in for a rude slap in the face with gotham.
So Like who? Check below:

Start-up Vivace Networks emerged from stealth mode last week with products that are actually shipping - including 10G bit/sec Ethernet and OC-192c ATM boards - and a Tier 1 customer that's actually deploying Vivace switches in a production network

re: Ciena to Merge, Shrink Yea, except that the large platform isn't shipping, nor are the 10G interfaces. The so-called edge box has no metallic interfaces. Otherwise it's a slam dunk.

re: Ciena to Merge, Shrink I heard that Ciena was having trouble integrating the ONI platform into their product line due to the fact that the ONI products are not dynamically reconfigurable.

Any truth to this?

re: Ciena to Merge, Shrink BobbyMax,

You are right, the Cyras acquistion was a loser. The box was too much hype, too little engineering. UPSR ring never did work - and point to point was marginal. The deal was done - with the diligence.

I bet Ciena wished they had passed on Cyras and bought a good startup - like Ocular....Whose product actually works...

re: Ciena to Merge, Shrink coolhand,

great name...i like that - do you know the status of K2 at this point? - have they fixed the UPSR issues? - lots of misinformation out there
