re: Centerpoint 's Appeal: Sooo 1999? OK so Centerpoint's days are numbered. multiple, unfocused businesses, neither of which are doing any business. they bought a failing company (zaffire) because they themselves couldn't make and sell their original product. it's amazing they've lasted this long. this last desperation attempt is just the icing on the cake.

now let's think about something else. the irony is so thick here you can cut it with a knife. in times when the optical networking market is being completely decimated, who do you think will be hit the hardest? possibly a website launched at the peak of the bubble era that makes it's money from advertising dollars (like that business model was ever proven?) from optical networking companies that are dissapearing left and right.

guess who's next. the only reason LightReading is still around is because it only takes 4 reporters and a couple engineers to keep the thing going. what a sad day it will be when none of us can waste our day coming to these message boards talking smack about everyone else.

re: Centerpoint 's Appeal: Sooo 1999? In good times, and in bad times, you will always need a bar to go and gripe (or celebrate) with your friends, or at least semi-familiar people.

Long live LR, the ultimate cyberbar for optiheads!

The only thing missing is drinks, of course, but they'll figure that one out, too, sometime.

re: Centerpoint 's Appeal: Sooo 1999? After burning thru a combined 350 million in 2+ years and buying failing startups one after another, it is about time they ask the investors to "refill". It is amazing that they have the nerve to ask the investors for an additional $90mil E round. Perhaps they think by the time they get to F round, they will get a chance to IPO.

The fact of the matter is that even 90mil won't do them any good. With their clueless management team and high head counts, they will just burns out the 90mil in no time.

re: Centerpoint 's Appeal: Sooo 1999? Centerpoint could have been a contender.

In it's heyday, they were first class.

re: Centerpoint 's Appeal: Sooo 1999? Noted that Centerpoint is now cutting staff to try to get more funding. Interesting. Cutting the original Centerpoint staff engineers and keeping the management... nice .. a company of management silos with no workers, just angry managers.
