Well, Adtran had to get OSMINEd for the TA5000. So, you better recheck that. I also note you ignored the BBAIS requirement. Even know what that is?

I can't imagine how you could alienate all of your Qwest contacts with your winning personality. You certainly need them. Qwest is now requiring OSMINE for only switching and SS7-related products.

I admit profound embarrassment that I don't know that crucial term you mentioned.

Now is the operative word you moron.

The RFP was some time ago perhaps if you were here in those days you would know all of this.

For BBAIS - hint also Telus.

My point here for those that read Mark...He is an idiot. If you listen to his research or do anything based on his analysis - you are stupid. He is clearly here as someone who is self-promoting and is showing why you should NOT buy anything from his firm or do anything with them.

Hope that is clear - if not I can word it more strongly next time.

Hey, you two. Keep it civil, okay gentlemen?

If you don't, I'll be forced to laugh even harder.

There. Stern warning delivered. Carry on,

Hey pal -- you are the moron and you demonstrate it all of the time. At least I am not hiding behind an alias in attacking people and being condescending. Have the courage to come out and make those kinds of statements.

I have been in the business almost 30 years and I have built up a reputation for brutal honesty. Light Reading knows me from back when it started. In fact, the original founder, Steve Saunders, always said I was one of only a couple of analysts who was not afraid to tell the truth -- and I have the scars to prove it.

Ironically, this whole discussion about OSMINE has been moot anyway. My understanding is that Calix has stopped the process for now in order to spend all of its resources in upgrading the Occam product. That will apparently be going into the Qwest network in a big way without OSMINE. That means any future OSMINE activity by Calix will be more for the other two RBOCs anyway -- and is CenturyLink going to insist on it for the Qwest network going forward?

You just can't deal with being challenged. I am still waiting for an answer as to why Verizon spent all of that money on FiOS.

Light Reading can ask me to stop posting anytime so that you can go back to being a bully without too much trouble.

re: Calix Reveals Its Fiber Future

Hi I must get in on this discussion.

The reality of Calix - well the MSAN C7 is an overdesigned and expensive box - that is a fact not fiction as anyone who has ever developed a DLC e.g. folks from AFC or Adtran will testify to this.

The reality of Calix - Many of the peripheral products are actually OEM out of China e.g. Xdsl pizaz boxes, Ethernet product line. That is a fact check with customer like Sprint who had Calix rebrand the product.

The reality of Calix - The acquisition of Occam is a scam so executives can ride the stock. The Occam GiGE Ethernet product line and ONTs are far superior than anything that Calix has to offer - ties in with OEM point above. The GPON was an acquistion by Calix i nthe first place. The CEO has been told by many cusotmers that they do not like GPON they wnat direct GbE. Adtran CEO take note.

The reality of Calix - the company is one of the leading access companies fighting with Adtran for NA leadership.

The reality of Calix - many of us not in with Calix do not like them - Carl is such an Obama type.

I hope this helps and is a fair and balanced view

What is superior about Occam's ONTs, or their ONT selection?

re: Calix Reveals Its Fiber Future

Frank,

The Occam GbE ONT was designed and developed by ReadyLinks and then later taken back in house because of its market success. My estimation is it the most widely deployed GBE ONT in NA. Coupled with a well proven high density GBE OLT it is tough to beat for direct GbE - Calix cannot compete in this space. Its GPON ONT technology on the other hand was from Terawave - but faced stiff competition from other sources e.g Calix OSI acquisition.

So Calix acquires OSI gets a GPON ONT/OLT solution on the cheap. Calix buys Occam gets GBE ONT/OLT on the cheap.

I am guessing that Carl Russo's pitch is all about customer acquisition not technology. He is picking up all the market undervalued assets or overvalued if you prefer so he can then present a single company front to the customers - profitable and returns in one egg basket.By handpicking the best in each class he can create a powerful marketing message and go the leader in Access certainly in the NA market.

Calix has no real internal IP anymore they only way to grow is by acquisition of the other smaller guys/competitors. The clever part of the whole shell game is Calix managed to convinve acquired companies and investors that it was a safe bet. Lets face it how did they ever go public without making money - well you have to throw money out there to get wallstreet to accept you and the IPO. Now Calix is public they can spin and start acquiring other companies e.g. Occamm, after that an access wireless company next or a metro DWDM access company e.g. Cyan.

Quite clever really - the consolidation of assets that once nearly sucked close to 1B$ of VC money into a company like Calix. Think about it.

Side note: I'm wondering tho how Mike Hatfield is feeling - he has yet to take a company PO yet Carl has managed to thrive of Mikes plans e.g. Cerent and Calix. In fact I would go so far as to say that Carl does not know anything about the technology or product creation but he has a business instinct to latch onto a good thing and make himself megabucks in the process - like a laywer or a politician - lol.
