Maxis could gain from this deal, as they have been trying to gain significant ground in the Indian Telecom market. Time to get aggressive...
The Mumbai circle valuation remains the key in any deal that shall happen with Loop Telecom. Loop a.k.a BPL is a great band in Mumbai, the Aircel is a much greater brand in the southern part of the country. In case of a merger, it remains to be seen as to Loop dominates or Aircel.
Of notable interest is, any hand of Essar has seen numerous brand transitions. The erstwhile Orange --> Hutch --> Vodafone was one notable aspect. The strange part though is that all the three of them had quite substantial Brand Valuation, near about 25 to 30%, or so..

... and now Aircel says "We are not in the Loop for Loop". Aircel has dismissed talks of Loop acquisition as pure speculative. In the interim though, this grapevine has provided some room for future consolidation.
