how long have you worked for Huawei?  or do you instead work for one of Huawei's key suppliers or for one of their paid "non-Huawei" marketing outlets?

Uguessy,

I think you are pushing the marketing hype here.  My numbers indicate that H has less than 5% of core routing.  Not even close to the 10% you are claiming.  this may change in the future.  but they are not there today.  H does have a much bigger percent in core transport and may be able to eventually leverage that to bigger core router numbers.

Looks like Huawei has increased the number of staff who troll blog boards like this one and pretend to be independent outsiders.

clearly at least 2 or 3 company trolls are now regularly online.  

At least the one guy in europe has the ethical decency to clearly state he works for Huawei. 

The other Huawei sponsored guys need to get new ID's on LR sight and polish up their tactics so they are less obvious.

@ sailboat; I do NOT work for Huawei, in any form whatsoever. That includes directly or any associated company or affiliate.

In a former life, I have had exposure to the Core routing platforms of all the major vendors, and that's where I get my information from. Its also why I used words such as "did" in my post,

Usually, you make relatively coherent & relevant posts on the board, perhaps you had a bad day? I am going to put your idiotic rant and asinine comments down to that.

I would strongly suggest that you get to know people & mature. You should understand people will have different views to you, before posting trash & nonsense about them - in future.

Product pumping? I gave a viewpoint with reasoned & valid statements. 

You on the other hand, made useless allegations and offered nothing. I know which one well informed industry leaders will probably take note of.

- On topic: Core routing numbers & market share are partially smoke & mirrors anyway. Why? Well surprisingly people inflate shipping numbers to meet quarterly earnings, "blur" the definition of core & edge routers, omit sensitive network deployments, etc, etc.

 

On a sidenote; Its ridiculous how emotional people get over posts about Huawei, Chinese vendors. The level of hysteria and illiterate nonsense posted is ridiculous!

This is a industry forum. If you cant read English or understand it AND post coherent responses, I suggest you stick to your day job and leave the adults to talk.

Nowadays I don't know what numbers to believe. If your numbers were more accurate, then I would stand corrected. It is a Lightreading board, and the analysts surely know the numbers better than any of us. :-)

Hey macster,

The notion of "complex feateres" was not brought up by me but by uguess. I was wondering myself what he meant by that (didn't get an answer on that btw). The XRS datasheet says the following (copy/paste - please don't sue me:-):

• IPv4 and IPv6 unicast and multicast routing and forwarding
• BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, and PIM routing protocols
• MPLS Label Edge Router (LER) and Label Switching Router (LSR) functions
• LDP and RSVP for MPLS Signaling and Traffic Engineering, including Point-to-Point and Multipoint LSPs
• Point-to-Point Ethernet VLLs, Multipoint Ethernet VPLS and IP VPNs for use in delivering core infrastructure services.

I wouldn't call that complex myself. Granted, you could argue that IP VPN and VPLS are traditional provider edge features, but in this context they could also be used as network/carrier VPN services to interconnect datacenters into a cloud and such.

It's becoming hard to tell really where the edge stops and the core starts, and this delineation will differ depending on the scale of the carrier as well. Capacity or interface speeds no longer work as all the major vendors have 100G on their edge routers now as well. The ASR 9922 trumps most core routers in capacity. While there are edge features like subscriber management that a core router will never do, it is not uncommon for high-end edge routers like the MX or 7750 to occasionally double as entry-level core routers as well.

Perhaps the days of the pure-breed core router are coming to an end?

One of the significant components that makes SDN's attraction is the removal of specific designations on the routers.

Core, Edge and CPE become effectively a single set of hardware products that are scaled up and manipulated at the software layer.

Of course, its more complicated than the above soundbite, but thats the core premise. Thats why you have Cisco saying the future is 10, 40, 100g on a single port, for example.
