re: Alcatel/Lucent: The Domino Factor I don't know what it should be called, but as for a new logo:

"A Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey popping his head out of a tiny Circular Red Fox Hole" seems like a good start to convey the synergies of the two.

re: Alcatel/Lucent: The Domino Factor "ALA has been after a good Wireless and WiMax connection for some time. See LR aticles. Lucent makes sense in this 'light'. AlcaBell! See 'The Domino Factor'"

Lucy has good wireless.
Lucy does not have good WiMax.
Check out the Lucy CTIA booth. You'll find a partner company under the WiMax signage. (can't remember their name, think it starts with an A, but it's just a Partner)

re: Alcatel/Lucent: The Domino Factor Still not quite correct.

1. Alcatel Bell still exists, and is the current name of the company that founded the first of the Alcatel joint ventures in China (initially called Shanghai Bell Telephone Manufacturing Company, SBTMC).

2. Skipping a lot of history, SBTMC was merged with a number of other Alcatel assets in China to form the current Alcatel Shanghai Bell (ASB), which is now also majority-owned by Alcatel.

re: Alcatel/Lucent: The Domino Factor Stanley,

It sucks when the boss walks in and you have to abort in mid post... ;-)

This could be the worst thing in the world for the rest of Telcom. Look what happened with Alcatel's last big rock tying debacle. It took them 2+ years to shed all of the DSC shackles (people and products). RIP iMTN.

It was like a dirty bomb going off. Some of those folks did retire while the rest landed at other companies. Congratulation to those lucky companies (you know who you are). For those about to delist, I Salute You.

With LU the best thing that Alcatel has going for them is someone other than Krish Prabu (congrats Tellabs) is calling the shots.

So honestly, if this merger goes through is the rest of the telcom industry ready for a LU "Dirty Bomb"?

Cheers

re: Alcatel/Lucent: The Domino Factor In addition to the synergies on the wireless side, there would be substantial synergy for Ericsson on the wireline side of the business. Lucent is an incumbent in may of the North American wireline carriers, which is a position Ericsson would be willing to pay to get.

Overall, I think Ericsson would be significantly hurt by a LU/ALA combo that they will at least be forced to react. Whether that is bidding for Lucent or just making some other defensive acquisition, we'll just have to wait and see.

re: Alcatel/Lucent: The Domino Factor "What is the origin of your great love/hate with iMTN?"

There is an interesting story there and I just can't get into details here.

It was a great idea when it was concieved (there was even an undocumented Coffee Grinder and espresso feature). But Alas, like so many DSC efforts the development/ execution just didn't live up to the marketing / sales hype.

chalk it up as a contribution to the DSC "dirty bomb" effect.

Cheers

re: Alcatel/Lucent: The Domino Factor Lite Rock,
What is the origin of your great love/hate with iMTN? Seems like an interesting story. But hey, DSC was able to place it in front of Tellabs and Alcatel in the last waning days of DSC, leaving an interesting transition for Alcatel.

The exciting news about iMTN these days may be the tracking of its inventory into and out of COs and Telmar, and what can be done with the space.

Yes, I realize that there could be a lot of smalltalk around a water cooler or a venti latte about it.
