re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal
As I recall, rumor has it (and I thought it was reported here) that Siemens is selling their Communications Group. Could be they are exiting Telecom Equipment.

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal French just getsured at making it easier to lay off younger people and they rioted in the streets. Frenchies too kind to illegal immigrants and old world values.

But the smelling salts should have kicked in by now for my resilient American friends with the attitude and fast talk.

Maybe those still on the payrolls can start their own companies or new careers before the axe is dropped!

I wish them luck in Murray Hill, Holmdel, Cary, Raleigh, Plano... wherever.

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal Dear Geoff:
The silence on revenue growth is deafening. I happen to believe it is because IMS will never work, either technically or economically. If they are going to move from big legacy suppliers, to big IMS suppliers, they had better lay off lots of people fast before revenues go to zero.

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal "Any comments on a Siemens/Nortel combination?"
A year ago this was the scuttlebut but since the arrival of the new CEO, wonder whether it is still the case.
I would see him getting hooked to Ericsson. Just my 2 cents.

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal I don't see Nortel and Seimens...Seimens doesn't want to lead, and Nortel has zero positive momentum to have them lead. I would see both as acquistion targets, but not going together.

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal Maybe Alcatel/Lucent should buy Tellabs next so they can put Krish in charge of Alcatel again. He did so well with the DSC merger.

They won't buy Tellabs that would be another Prabu boo-boo. Alcatel has learned a great deal from mistakes made during the DSC merger. The question is; will they actually remember and apply what they learned this time?

Now, Tellabs and Sycamore could work as long as the TREE-Ego could be kept in check.

Cheers

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal siemens and nortal are actually good targets for asiatic vendors.
they're already have a lot of OEMs in their portfolio, and today their main strengths are maybe in sales channels, support, credibility, financial liability; all what many chinese vendors lack in europe & americas.

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal I don't think the question of what to call the new company has been settled. I tried the Internet Anagram Generator to see what could be made of "Alcatel Lucent"

True anagrams use all the letters of the original words, so you don't get much that works. But if you don't insist on using all the letters, there's some interesting possibilities:

"Ace Tuna" (Will Pat Russo be a "big fish" out of water in Paris?)

"Uncle Tel" (Goes well with Ma Bell, which looks like it's getting back together...)

"Le Calcutta" (Hmmm... wonder if the French are planning any offshoring?)

Anal Cult (speaks for itself...)

Clean Act Tel (no accounting issues here...)

Clean Cat Tel (no fleas eaither...)

Cattle Call (I "herd" they were the market leaders...)

The CEO's names also make some great anagrams:

Serge Tchuruk can be rearranged to spell "huckster urge"

Patricia Russo makes "sour, parasitic"

Oh, and one more...

Mike Quigley can be rearranged to make: "I ugly, meek IQ."

Sounds like the makings of a winning team!

(Disclaimer: Just in case "Ace Tuna" decides to sue this poster and force LR to reveal my true identity... The above post is made as an attempt at humour. No aspersions are cast on the character of any of the people or companies mentioned. If you are offended by anything in this post, lighten up and get over it. Thank you.)

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal hwg434 says: "(Disclaimer: ... yadda ... If you are offended by anything in this post, lighten up and get over it. Thank you.)"

Yeah, right! Make fun of their names and then post the disclaimer. How would you like it if I took your name and anagrammed it to, er, ..., um, g43 hw4? There, hope I ruined your day.

(Disclaimer: I apologize in advance if g43 hw4 is a cuss-word in some language. I was only practicing some dry humor.)

re: Alcatel, Lucent Seal Deal Back to the Important questions...

I'm glad somebody around here has their priorities straight, cuz I was tired of reading about IMS this, or GPON that.

(PS. And kudos to Scott for AlkaLu. It's not Normanscatoni, which just rolls off the tongue, but it's a step in the right direction.)

(Disclaimer: ... If you are offended by anything in this post, lighten up and get over it. Thank you.)

FYI: I found the disclaimer quite offensive.
